Dimensions Variable and site95 are pleased to present Cut Outs, an exhibition of new work by Jenny Brillhart and Carolyn Salas. The exhibition will run from January 26 – March 21, 2013 and focuses on concepts of form, balance and structure. Process and history are integral themes that question the source and display of objects in space.

Through an architectural lens, Brillhart’s somber constructs shift between the representational and abstract. Brillhart’s source materials include paint, collage, still life, studio, found material and photography. Media is culled to form work through a process of addition and subtraction. For the artist, the works evolve with a specific history and diary of process, and strive to stay in keeping with the initial impulse of authorship and purpose. Selected exhibitions include: Dorsch Gallery, the Sammlung SØR Rusche Museum in Germany, Miami Art Museum, FL, the Anhaltinischen Gemäldegalerie Museum in Dessau, Morgan Lehman Gallery in NY. Brillhart graduated with a BA from Smith College and received an MFA in from the New York Academy of Art. Brillhart lives and works in Miami, Florida. The artist currently has a solo show at Kuckei + Kuckei in Berlin.

New York based artist Carolyn Salas’ sculptural works investigate the tension between the physical and psychological space. Cement, plaster, ceramics, found objects, photography, and fabric are brought together with laborious craft to reveal human imperfections that are reflective of our everyday burdens, failures and achievements. Carolyn Salas received her BFA from The College of Santa Fe and her MFA from Hunter College. Selected exhibitions include: Urbis, The City Center, UK, Gallery Zidoun, Luxembourg, Art Space, CT, Parisian Laundry, QC, the Berkshire Museum, MA, Torrance Art Museum, CA, and the Santa Barbara Contemporary Arts Forum, CA. Salas has been a resident artist at several organizations, most recently at Franconia Sculpture Park, MN, Abrons AIRspace studio program, and currently at the New York Art Residency and Foundation (NARS) and The Fountainhead Residency, FL. Salas’ current solo exhibition “Hang Up” is on view at Dodge Gallery, New York through February 17.

This is the second in a tripart series of exhibitions between site95 and Dimensions Variable. The first exhibition, Trombly Rodriguez: The Fabric of a Space was held at the Abrons Arts Center October 12 – November 18, 2012. The third exhibition with Antoine Lefebvre and P. Scott Cunningham will open at Dimensions Variable on April 11, 2013.
